The Story of ‘Boss’ Our Beautiful Great Dane x Bull Arab (9 years old)
Well Boss’s problems with his back started about 6 years ago where he tried to jump over our pool fence but landed on his tailbone. He seemed a little hunched straight after and then he had the odd time over the next 5 fives where he would yelp in pain. He was prescribed pain medication by the vet but otherwise they said basically there’s not a lot that could be done. We also tried a 6 week course of injections, I thought there was no harm in trying but really there was no sign of any improvement.
The problem escalated when Boss ran fully front on into a glass door that he thought was open. Over the next month he became progressively worse. Boss was showing a lot of stiffness in his neck area and walking around very hunched up. We lowered his feeding bowl as he would yelp if he lifted his head too high, he looked very uncomfortable and was at the stage where he would not even stretch when he stood up. We knew we had to do something when one night Boss started screaming in pain, yelping holding up his front paw and nearly couldn’t hold himself up. My neighbours from two houses cam running out to see what had happened. We felt so helpless, his pain was excruciating and we could do nothing.
This is when I started researching on the internet and thought there must be someone out there that can help and I found Doc Jamieson. I phoned Doc and we arranged an urgent visit from him. After the first visit there was a huge improvement with Boss, you could tell that he was very happy and relaxed afterwards and Boss even went up and gave Doc a thank you kiss on his cheek (very cute). We ended up with Doc coming down to do about 6 individual treatments with Boss, the only problem was that as the injury was a mixture of an old one and a new problem, Boss’s neck would slip out again and pinch the nerve. It was decided that Doc should take Boss to his home and begin treatment on him there which continued for 2-3 weeks. As our living area is tiled, numerous changes were made before Boss came home, runner mats were placed in the living areas and a gate put across the stairs to stop Boss from using them. We also make sure that we include a daily walk to keep up his muscle tone.
Boss finished his treatment approximately 6 months ago and we are so glad to say that he is a very happy boy. The improvement shown is fantastic. Hard to think that we were at a very difficult stage where we could not let Boss live in the pain that he was in and putting him to sleep was becoming an option. We cannot thank you enough Doc for the tireless work and effort that you put in, Boss can now live out a pain free and happy life.
Thank you so much from Sarah, Liam & Bianca
